The doctors at Williamson Eye Center are always busy adopting new procedures and learning new techniques. Frequently treating patients with both cataracts and concomitant glaucoma, Dr. Charles Williamson, Dr. Blake Williamson, Dr. Blake Booth, and Dr. Matthew Smith decided to bring MIGS (microinvasive glaucoma surgery) to Williamson Eye Center — furthering our mission of providing the very best service and technology for our patients in the greater Baton Rouge area.
MIGS allows surgeons to perform cataract surgery and treat glaucoma during one procedure, making treatment more efficient. This cutting edge technology additionally reduces the need for topical medications and is far less invasive than traditional procedures for the treatment of glaucoma.
Learning these new procedures takes time and commitment; our physicians strongly suggest exploring the experience and time a MIGS surgeon has taken to practice and study the procedure. Drs. Smith, Booth, and Williamson have spent much time themselves in labs practicing and perfecting their techniques.
Recently, Drs. Smith, Booth, and Williamson were asked to share their expertise on implementing MIGS in a busy practice in the prestigious Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today magazine which was quite an honor! We are proud to have physicians that continue to lead the way for new advancements in ophthalmology.
